The swelling and inflammation may have more serious complications than what you feel. The sinuses are hollow facial cavities that serve to make the skull less heavy, and provide room for warming and humidifying air that enters the lungs. However, viruses and bacteria may invade these regions and produce infection. In severe cases, the infection could reach the ears via the Eustachian tube causing other symptoms like sinus dizziness, tinnitus and hearing loss. The following are the misconceptions you should be aware of.

1. Runny nose is a sinus infection. This is true in cases of bacterial infection, but not all sinus problems are caused by bacteria. Remember antibiotics do not work against viruses. It is important to be checked by a physician if cold symptoms do not alleviate after a week.

3. It is all right to stay on antibiotics and antihistamines until the infection or allergy is gone. This is true for people with lower sensitivities, but people prone to ototoxicity should ask their doctors about safer brands of medication. Antibiotics and antihistamines cause an increased viscosity of the middle ear fluids, making drainage of the fluid out through the Eustachian tube difficult. This leads to sinus dizziness, tinnitus and temporary hearing loss.

4. Vitamin and mineral deficiency have nothing to do with sinus infection. Contrary to this one, nutrient deficiency leads to lowered immune response, jeopardizing body’s resistance against infection. A diet high in vitamin C and zinc has been observed to lower cases of sinus infections. Tinnitus has also been linked to vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

5. Sinus infections always lead to tinnitus. This is a fallacy. Often, sinus infections do not produce ear ringing symptoms. Occasionally, a severe sinus infection may cause blockage of the Eustachian tube. This causes fluid to build up in the middle ear, which results to hearing loss, but not necessarily tinnitus. However, there are a few cases of prolonged infection whereby the hair cells in the ears are damaged and may cause permanent hearing loss and tinnitus.

Infections of the sinus, dizziness and tinnitus may go together in severe cases. There are different ways to cure tinnitus depending on who you ask. Only one thing is sure. There is yet no cure that eliminates the ringing noise totally.

Doctors would prescribe anti-anxiety and anti-depression medication during the onset of the condition. These agents’ help people cope with anxiety and depression that occurs with the ear problem. Anxiety and depression happen because patients take tinnitus as a threatening disorder, and these have a feedback loop since they induce stress, which aggravates the ringing symptoms. Thus it is necessary for some patients to bring the negative reactions down, and this may be done through medications.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is a psychological intervention geared to help people deal with tinnitus as a less threatening condition. It helps one to perceive head noises in a different fashion. It is similar to retraining therapy, only CBT goes further by targeting depression in patients.

Relaxation is another method to ease stress that comes along with tinnitus – either it is due to outside forces, intensifying tinnitus symptoms, or caused by tinnitus itself. Stress should never accompany tinnitus because when it does it worsens the existing problem. Relaxation includes breathing exercises, Yoga and meditation, which are also part of ear ringing remedy.

A new method studied in neurobiology is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. This technique uses an apparatus that emits low frequency waves penetrating into the brain targeting the active areas, as it is believed that overactive neurons in the brain are responsible for ear noises. However, this method is still under careful study to test its efficacy.

Many people take benefits from masking devices, which generate background noise that drowns those of tinnitus. These may come as the ones prescribed by doctors and are worn at the patient’s convenience. Natural noise has the power to mask off tinnitus. If one stands near a water fountain and listen to the sound of gushing, pouring water, he would probably notice that he no longer hears the noise inside his ears. In fact, it was through this method that the tinnitus masker was invented.

Lifestyle modification is perhaps the best way to combat tinnitus. People get sick because of bad habits, and if these habits are eliminated, general health improvement should occur. This includes avoidance of stress, fatigue and anxiety, which all seem to amplify abnormal head noises. Diet must be guarded, too, such that salt, caffeine and fat is minimized, if not eliminated from one’s diet. Moreover, smoking must be discontinued.

Ear ringing remedy also involves the use of alternative preparations, which work with no side effects.

Treatment for Ringing Ears

Tinnitus is a common ear disorder characterized by perception of tones or noises in the ears or head without apparent external source. The answer depends on you. Statistics seldom show it as being a debilitating disorder. Some cases of tinnitus are worse enough that people seek medical attention. The moment it interferes with a person’s daily activities that is when it becomes bothersome. Help for tinnitus becomes a need then.

“The problem begins in the inner ear,” says Gary, one of the sufferers of the condition. He recalls having tinnitus since fifteen years ago. The man from Florida is a disc jockey and has been in contact with loud music and sudden stereo blasts since the day he barely remembers. On an account he said that his condition has gotten worse on his fifth year as a disc jockey during which time he was also attending a college university.

There were days when he could hardly focus on class lectures because he was hearing some high shrill in his head. He thought he was going nuts. “On a few occasions,” he recalls “the voices around me seemed muffled and the ringing in my ears getting stronger.” He never knew he needed help for tinnitus. The school physician was perplexed too. He continued working at the radio station oblivious of the gradual damage he has been encountering due to feedback noise of perhaps poor equipment.

Anyway, he had to pay the bills so he had barely other choices, until a year after when his family moved to South Carolina. He was forced to leave the university and his job. “But the head noise never left me,” he added chuckling. He recalls working in a restaurant where weekends mean peak hours of duty and the bulk of customers are expected. “The ringing seemed to become more bothersome during weekends when tasks were heavy.”

Finally he thought better and went to be examined in a nearby clinic where the doctor suspected tinnitus. “What’s tinnitus?” I remember snapping that question which the doctor answered curtly. Why? Because what causes hearing loss most likely causes tinnitus. Hearing loss and ear problems are affecting more people than ever. People whose lifestyle makes them vulnerable to have hearing loss are also likely to have tinnitus as well.

These factors cause hearing defects and tinnitus. It destroys your inner ear. You can suffer from tinnitus, as well, upon initial exposure to loud sound. Did any of you notice that your ears ring after a rock concert? That means you have sustained some damage to your hearing. Human ears despise loud noise and loud music. If you’re working in an environment where machines are too loud, wear ear plugs and don’t remove them unless you’re well away from the area. Don’t turn your radio or component systems at high volume. Also remember that sudden blasts, gunshots, loud firecrackers, and vehicle horns do no good to your hearing.

Stress is unavoidable. It keeps you aware that you’re not supposed to be complacent. However, it triggers tinnitus. Hearing loss is not directly linked to stress, but some experts believe stress may have something to do with hearing problems.

A sharp blow on the head may damage the internal portions of the ears causing hearing problems. Ear infection may spread in the middle and inner ear and cause swelling, fluid build-up, and pressure in these parts restricting them from normal functioning. A puncture in the ear drum, on the other hand, causes hearing loss that results to tinnitus as the hearer has lost external auditory perception. Measles and meningitis are two diseases known to destroy the acoustic nerve.

Ear wax occasionally builds up in the ear canal and causes conductive hearing loss. Any obstruction in the auditory canal leads to loss of hearing external sound. In this case the person becomes more sensitive to his “internal” sounds.

Over-the-counter medicines like aspirin may result to hearing loss. So are ototoxic drugs with aminoglycosides or ibuprofen. They may induce hearing loss and ringing to sensitive patients. Some substances like nicotine, alcohol, and caffeine cause disturbances in the blood flow around the ears, thus, affecting hearing.

There is no substantial evidence that links heredity to tinnitus. However, hearing loss can be genetic. On the other hand deafness and tinnitus can also be due to aging process as healthy cells including those in the inner ear die and are no longer replaced. Hearing defects is a natural sign of old age.

Much of what we do can have bad effects to no less than our ears. Tinnitus, hearing loss, and other ear defects are due to factors we ignore most of the time.

Tinnitus Causes: Misleading Notions

Tinnitus has been regarded by many in ways they thought were right. The right information is the key to understanding it better – what causes it, how to prevent it, and how to treat it. Tinnitus causes are just around the corner and if you are equipped with what is true regarding tinnitus, then you are better off at avoiding it than those who have not.

These are the subsequent notions about tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a disease. False. Though, it can easily be thought of as one, tinnitus is never a disease. It is a sign of one, nonetheless.

Tinnitus is a mental condition. Tinnitus is almost never a mental or neurological problem. Neither is it due to one. In some people, however, tinnitus causes depression.

Tinnitus is a sign of a severe disorder. Tinnitus has a number of causes, but the chance of having it due to a grave illness is almost too small. However, this is not a reason to be complacent. At a sign of hearing abnormal noises in your ears, go to your GP or your ENT so proper evaluation can be done.

Tinnitus can cause deafness. This one is untrue. Tinnitus may disrupt hearing but it never in itself gives rise to hearing loss. It can be the other way around though – that hearing loss gives rise to tinnitus. A lot of people with tinnitus have normal hearing.

Tinnitus is only characterized by ringing sensation. No. Symptoms of tinnitus vary from person to person. Some hear a constant ringing (as if a high note is played continuously inside their ears). Some hear buzzing, whistling, roaring, humming, clicking, or rustling sounds.

Tinnitus can only be heard in the ears. This is apparent for some. Other sufferers hear tinnitus in their heads. Some even say they seem to hear the sound hovering around their heads.

Tinnitus is degenerative and it worsens with time. Some patients say this is true. On the other hand, others testify the contrary. People can adapt to having tinnitus. Seeking good treatment for tinnitus most likely results to feeling better. In time, tinnitus becomes more bearable and less noticeable.

Tinnitus is something you cannot do anything about. This is false. There is no absolute cure for tinnitus, yes. However, it is untrue that you are left with no option. Drug therapy, ear masking device, relaxation, and natural remedy offer benefits to sufferers. Being mistaken as a disease, this ear-bugging discomfort is not a disease in its own right but a symptom of a bodily disorder that may range from a simple as build up of ear wax to as severe as a brain tumor. People can be unlucky sometimes. Thus, tinnitus sufferers would often ask, “How to stop the ringing in my ears?”

Tinnitus is a nuisance. It is irritating, annoying, exasperating, disturbing, and depressing. The abnormal noise “heard” varies from person to person. It may resemble whistling, buzzing, hissing, even roaring sounds. It may be soft enough to be ignored but at times too loud for a good night sleep.

If your ears have been persistently ringing and you want to get relief, here are the steps:

Identify the underlying problem.

A patient goes to an ear specialist and asks, “How to stop the ringing in my ears?” But getting away from the ringing is not always the first step to feeling better. Often, the cause must be identified because the treatment for tinnitus depends upon what caused it. Ask your doctor or your ear specialist.

Get treatment from the underlying disorder.

This is the second step to getting relief and of course this is very basic. Curing the main problem should cure the ringing as well. The cure may be in form of medication, therapies, or hypnosis. One may also opt for homeopathic remedies as these natural means have been really effective.

Change your lifestyle and be health conscious.

A huge number of the diseases suffered by man are due to his lifestyle. Ear hygiene is important and foremost because build up of ear wax may cause temporary tinnitus. Turn down the volume of your stereo. Loud noise is a major cause of tinnitus as we know it. If you cannot avoid being in contact with deafening sounds, wear ear muffs or simply cover your ears. Monitor your blood pressure and avoid high-cholesterol diet. The buildup of cholesterol in the blood vessels can worsen the effects of hypertension. One complication is pulsatile tinnitus. Fight stress and avoid anxiety. Furthermore, know the side effects of medications. Temporary tinnitus can be due to the side effects.

Mask the ringing and buzzing.

You can play low-volume music or turn on the TV. These may mask the sound you hear inside your head.

Feel good about yourself.

Do not keep thinking about your condition. Keep busy. Have fun. Being overly aware about your condition will only worsen the discomfort. Be cheerful.

People must take care of their ears. Everyone wants to enjoy music, the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and a nice conversation. Not noise. and it can sometimes be difficult to identify it, especially without a diagnosis from a physician. It is even more difficult to find a good and working treatment without the diagnosis.

Your doctor will agree with you that you will not be able to find a single cure it all for a ringing in the ears. The truth is, a rough estimate of 93% of the population affected with tinnitus never find a remedy or relief from ringing in ears. This is the reason why people have resulted to alternative treatments, hoping it can give them the relief they have been looking for.

Here are some to do list to find out the causes for ringing ears:

· See a doctor and have the cause diagnosed. Nothing beats a proper medical diagnosis to determine the exact cause of the tinnitus. It is not good to make presumptions on the causes. Ringing ears is a symptom and therefore a problem is causing it and that is what you need to find out with your physician or specialist.

· Remember to state your habits and latest activities with your doctor during a check-up to help him determine properly if there are other factors which may be causing the ear ringing.

· If you happen to be under medication, try to observe if you have an ear ringing everytime you take in your medication. If this should be the case, go back to your prescribing physician and have him to change your medicine or lower the dose. Never change your medicine or even attempt reducing the dose all by yourself. This will put your health at risk.

The cochlea in our ears plays a very vital role in our sense of hearing. It is where the hearing nerves or thousands of tiny hair cells are located and the one which captures the sound coming from the external ears. The hair cells become stimulated as it hears a sound, but a loud sound makes it vibrate abnormally. Continuous vibration will damage the hair cells permanently and cause a permanent hearing loss. Damaged hair cells do not get the chance to heal and be restored. Thus it is important to know that listening to very loud noise or music is one of the causes for ringing ears, and most people only know about it when the damage is there and irreversible.

Ringing Left Ear – The Three Important Factors That I Checked

It did not actually bother me nor caused me to panic the first time that I had a ringing left ear. In fact, I can no longer remember when it started. It was nothing significant and important that I did not bother to worry or even think about it.

I only began giving my attention to it when I noticed it was getting weird and felt my right ear was beginning to hear the same ringing noise. By this time, I was reading some materials over the Internet to enlighten me. I did find some great reading materials which convinced me to pay attention to my ringing left ear.

From what I have read, I gave special attention to three important factors and checked myself:

· Exposure to Loud Noise – I kept reading materials about tinnitus that always blames loud noise and music for hearing damage. I admit I was totally unaware of such things. Good thing I was not a music buff, nor was I exposed to an environment that was noisy. But I am also thankful for learning this very important information. Now I can share what I have learned to my family and friends and even to the public. It just feels good to be able to warn people how to save their valuable sense of hearing.

· Stress and Anxiety – One way or another we all experience a little pressure from our family or workplace. When things get out of control that is when we begin to feel pressured and become anxious. Based on what I have read about tinnitus, the noise gets loud and worsens when we are in stress. From then on, I have started getting enough rest and sleep and eating healthy food. I also forced myself to keep fit and do regular exercises. I noticed I was experiencing less stress and my ear ringing mellowed.

· Prescription and Over the Counter Meds – Sure we all know that medicines have side effects if we take them for prolonged period. But I am not so aware that it can harm the ears, and this is what they call the ototoxic effect of drugs. Now I have become extra cautious when I take medicines.

It does help to read a lot. For me, my research on the Internet that got me curious of my ringing left ear taught me so many things. The most important of course is to see my doctor and have my ears checked. We need to take care of our health for this is where we derive our strength to work.

Fast Tinnitus Education: What Causes Ringing in the Ears, Symptoms, etc.

There is a need to disseminate more information on tinnitus as it is often misunderstood and many people do not know anything about it except that it is that annoying noise that seems to come from nowhere. What causes ringing in the ears, symptoms, treatments – these are important information that should be known to the public. Around 66 million people in the United States are affected by it in one way or another, but majority of these people have only been aware of the condition until their doctors have diagnosed them of it.

Tinnitus, defined as the perception of sound in one or both ears or in the head where there is no external source, is better known in layman's term as ear ringing. This is because it usually comes as a ringing noise. There are other sounds that are known to characterize it, though, including booming, buzzing, roaring, clicking, hissing, whistling, whooshing, and chirping noises. In some instances, any of the unwanted sounds is accompanied by headache, dizziness, pain in the ears, and ear pressure.

When you experience ear ringing, it would be best that you see your doctor and consult him or her about it as soon as you can. You see, it is not really an infection, disease, or disorder of sorts. On the other hand, it is a symptom of an underlying medical condition, much like fever. Thus, its treatment should be directed on what caused it. Your doctor would run some tests to determine the root cause, but it is possible that specialized tests would be conducted such as X-ray, ultrasound, audiogram, residual inhibition, and evoked response audiometry.

The conditions associated with tinnitus include cochlear damage due to loud noise exposure, stress, sinusitis, allergic reactions, Meniere's Disease, earwax impaction, age-associated loss of hearing, head trauma, muscle tension, thyroid disorder, vitamin B12 deficiency, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.

Remedies for ear ringing come in different forms. They could be in the form of conventional drugs such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety, and anticonvulsants. They may also come as alternative treatments like homeopathy, acupressure, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, meditation, reflexology, and relaxation therapy. Or, they may come as the use of devices like white noise maskers and hearing aids.

What causes ringing in the ears, symptoms, and remedies are some information that should not be taken for granted. This knowledge may help you in the future or even today if you yourself or your loved ones are suffering from tinnitus.

Tinnitis Treatments: Factors To Consider

The thing about tinnitis treatments is that the levels of their success vary from one sufferer to another. Thus, it is difficult to determine a single, standard treatment that would work for all ear ringing sufferers. What is usually recommended is a multidisciplinary approach or the use of several remedies.

When looking for the right remedies, here are the factors to consider:

Root Cause. What should be understood about tinnitus is that it is a symptom of an underlying medical condition. This means that it is treated primarily according to its cause. The conditions that cause it vary, ranging from ear problems to circulatory disorders. To help you find the appropriate remedy, the root cause of the ringing in your ears must be determined with a fair degree of certainty. And you need a medical professional for this as certain tests will be conducted to accurately trace the source of the unwanted sound.

Stress management. As you might have already known, stress, when not properly managed, can have negative effects. And, increasing the level of the ringing noise is just one of these. You should know the things that relax you and find time to do them, be it having a warm bath, walking your pet, writing down your feelings, reading a few lines from your favorite book, and so on. You can also find help from treatments like counseling, hypnotherapy, and meditation.

State of the Immune System. One of the notable effects of ringing in the ears is immune system suppression. The immune system protects you from infections and diseases that may aggravate the unwanted sound. To prevent this from happening, you should take actions to boost your immune system. The remedies that you need for this are basically natural, which are primarily some lifestyle changes here and there. One of these changes must include your diet. Make sure that it is proper and contains the right amounts immune-boosting minerals such as zinc. Your exercise habits also play an important role. Exercising does not only mean going to the gym. It is also about taking every opportunity to make your body active such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking in the park with your peers.

The best of the natural tinnitis treatments that you should have, though, is keeping a positive attitude. There is no magic pill that can treat tinnitus just then and there, hence, patience and determination are required of you.

Ringing in the Ear: The Most Common Sign of Tinnitus

The most common noise associated with tinnitus is ringing in the ear, although there are other sounds associated with it. These include humming, chirping, whooshing, clicking, hissing, buzzing, and roaring noises. Either of these noises may be accompanied by dizziness, earache, and a sense of fullness in the ears.

Defined as the perception of sound in the ears or head where there is no external source, tinnitus is a symptom and not an infection or disease of sorts in itself. Its presence is one way of warning you that you are suffering from an unhealthy condition. The conditions that cause ear ringing include noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinus problems or allergies, Meniere's Disease, earwax impaction, head injuries, muscle tension, thyroid disorder, vitamin B12 deficiency, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, and malformation of the capillaries.

Ringing in the ears can prove to be debilitating if it is not managed properly. It is so easy to get frustrated and stressed and say it is all because of the unwanted sound. It is easy to make it an excuse to do nothing and let it take control of your life. This should not be the case, however. Stress tends to increase the level of tinnitis, hence, efforts should be made to manage it properly. Counseling, hypnotherapy, meditation, and relaxation therapy are examples of treatments that help manage stress.

One thing to remember about ear ringing is that the more you are conscious about it, the more annoying it becomes. So you should learn to ignore it as much as possible. Some devices being used to make the unwanted sound less noticeable are white noise maskers and hearing aids. White noise maskers shift the focus of the sufferer from the ringing noise to the white noise, which is pleasant to listen to. Hearing aids, on the other hand, make the unwanted sound less noticeable by amplifying the sounds in the user's environment.
If you have ringing in the ear, it is also very important to have some lifestyle changes, including your diet, exercise habits, and sleeping patterns. Salty and caffeinated foods and drinks must be avoided. Your diet should be specially rich in zinc, choline, protein, and the vitamins A, B, and E, on the other hand. Instead of lying in your bed, wallowing in frustration, try to get active. Exercise properly and regularly; while exercise helps improve your blood circulation, it is also one way of relieving stress.

Managing Constant Ringing in the Ear

Besides being a symptom of an underlying medical condition, constant ringing in the ear can cause discomforts, if not unhealthy conditions. This medically termed as tinnitus has no cure as of yet, but remedies and treatments are available that can relieve you of its effects. While it can indeed be annoying, its presence should not be made as an excuse for you to wallow in frustration and to consciously not work properly as well as decrease your productivity.

One of the best ways to manage ear ringing is not to think about it as much as possible. The more you are conscious about it, the louder it tends to become. While the unwanted sound is a real physical noise, fighting against it is more of a psychological thing.

Moreover, tinnitus masking is one of the treatments that you can use, especially if you need to concentrate or if you find it hard to fall asleep at night. White noise maskers are often used as white noise is pleasant to listen to, and it does not evoke an emotional response from you. You can tune in your television set or FM radio in between channels so that white noise is produced. Or, you can have the commercially available ones in CD or MP3 formats. For those sufferers whose tinitus is related to hearing loss, they can use hearing aids to mask the unwanted sound – hearing aids amplify the sounds in their user's environment.

Increased stress is another effect of ear ringing that should be taken into consideration, especially that it tends to aggravate the unwanted sound. Find time to relax although you have to avoid counterproductive relaxation activities like smoking and excessive drinking. The healthy ways of relaxing include walking, calling a good friend, taking a warm bath, and engaging in sports. Stress management programs like counseling and hypnotherapy can also be of help.

To avoid aggravating constant ringing in the ear, you also have to avoid certain foods. They include those that have high salt contents. You should also minimize your intake of caffeinated foods and drinks such as coffee, sodas, and chocolates. You should also work on improving your health as an improved health means an improvement in your tinnitus. Eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. You also need to get enough sleep at night. And if you are into unhealthy activities like smoking and excessive drinking, then perhaps it is high time that you quit them. Remember that you are responsible for your own health.

Ringing in My Ears – What Is It Telling Me?

What is the ringing in my ears telling me? This is one question that should be asked by the sufferers of what is medically termed as tinnitus. You see, your ears do not ring for nothing. It is somewhat like a warning that something not good is taking place.

Tinnitus is defined as the perception of sound in the ears or head where there is no outside source. Apparently, it often comes as a ringing noise although there are other sounds associated with it, including buzzing, humming, hissing, roaring, clicking, chirping, and whistling noises. If you experience any of these noises, it can mean that you are suffering from an underlying medical condition.

The conditions associated with ear ringing vary. They include noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinus problem, allergic reactions, Meniere's Disease, earwax impaction, acoustic neuroma, age-associated hearing loss, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome, hyperthyroidism, vitamin B12 deficiency, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, and malformation of the capillaries. It is then strongly recommended that you see your doctor as soon as you can if you experience the unwanted sound.

While ringing in the ears is only a symptom, it can bring about further conditions that cannot be taken for granted. One of these is stress. Yes, it is both a cause and effect of the unwanted sound. And there is more: it also tends to aggravate the level of the ringing in your ears. Thus, proper stress management is emphasized. It is always helpful to find time to relax. Listen to low-volume music, have a warm nice bath, write down what you are feeling, or any activity that works for you. You may also find help from treatments like counseling, hypnotherapy, and meditation.

Another effect of tinitus is immune system suppression, and this is usually associated with the sleeping problems that the sufferers develop. The ringing noise seems to get louder in a quiet environment, which is the kind of environment that you have when you are about to go to sleep. As a result, you find it hard to fall asleep. As you might have already known, lack of sleep can have negative effects, one of which is immune system suppression, making you more susceptible to infections and diseases.

You may also want to further ask, “What are the lifestyle changes that I should make to help me with the ringing in in my ears?” The changes that you would have to take generally involves your diet, exercise habits, and sleeping patterns. Salty and caffeinated foods should be avoided, while your diet should be especially rich in zinc, choline, protein, and the vitamins A, B, and E. Furthermore, be sure that you exercise properly and regularly and that you get enough sleep at night.

A Look On The Drugs Causing Tinnitus

Yes, you have read it right. While they are used to treat various conditions, certain medicines have the potential to bring about ringing in the ears. There are various drugs causing tinnitus, and as listed in the Physicians Desk Reference, they sum to over 200. Be reminded, though, of the word “potential”. This means that they may, but not necessarily, cause ear ringing. It does not mean that when you take one of them, let us say, aspirin, you will automatically have tinitus. In general, though, the probability of these medicines to cause a person to experience the unwanted sound is higher when they are taken in high dosages for an extended period of time.

Other than ringing in the ears, these medications may also result to hearing loss and vertigo, all of which have something to do with ear health. As such, they are called ototoxic medications because they can be harmful to the ears.

Here are a few examples:
It has been found that around 90% of the cases of tinnitus is caused by this condition. Further conditions associated with ringing in the ears are stress, sinusitis or allergies, Meniere's Disease, presbycusis or age-associated hearing loss, earwax impaction, acoustic neuroma, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), whiplash injury, muscle tension, hyperthyroidism, vitamin B12 deficiency, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and malformation of the capillaries.

Whether it is Meniere's Disease, drugs causing tinnitus, or some metabolic disorder, it is important to have the root cause of the unwanted sound determined. And, it is strongly recommended that you seek a medical professional help for this. As ear ringing is a symptom, its treatment is primarily based on its cause. The treatments available include drug therapy, tinnitus masking therapy, use of alternative treatments, and natural treatments, which are, generally, some lifestyle changes.

Which Medical Conditions Are Causes of Ear Ringing?

It is a fact that the causes of ear ringing or tinnitus, generally, are medical conditions. This makes tinnitus, which is defined as the perception of sound in the ears or head where no external source is present, a symptom and not an infection or disease of sorts. And, this fact is one factor why there is known cure for it as of yet. It can be compared to fever, the treatment of which should be directed to the root cause.

It is very important to have the root cause of the ringing in your ears traced as it will help you find the appropriate treatment. You see, there is a wide array of treatments available, and you just cannot make use of them just because you feel like using them. And, when the source of the unwanted sound is determined with a fair degree of certainty, your options are narrowed.

The conditions that are associated with tinnitus vary. There are ones that are considered the main causes, though, because they are known to cause majority of the cases of ringing in the ears. These are:

Noise-induced cochlear damage. This is brought about by repeated exposure of the ears to loud noises. Listening to MP3 players at a high volume, going to concerts and noisy places and working in a very noisy environment without using any ear protection all contribute to this.

Stress. It is considered as part of our day-to-day living, and we need it to make us more motivated and productive. However, when it is not properly managed and your body gets too much of it, unhealthy conditions may arise. One of these is tinnitus.

Sinusitis or Allergies. In order to treat these conditions, people usually take antibiotics and antihistamines. But, these drugs can thicken the mucous in the middle ear, causing it to accumulate, and further leading to buildup of pressure. As a result of this buildup of pressure, middle ear infections and ringing in the ears take place.

Meniere's Disease. It is a disorder that involves the fluctuations in the volume of fluid in the inner ear. It is mainly characterized by four symptoms: vertigo, hearing fluctuations, a sense of pressure in the ears, and tinitus.

Other known causes of ear ringing are:

Acoustic neuromas. They are tiny, slow growing benign tumors that are pressed against the auditory nerves.

High Blood Cholesterol. It blocks the arteries that bring oxygen to the nerves of the inner ear.

Ototoxicity. Drugs that are harmful to the ears are known as ototoxic drugs. Examples are analgesics, antibiotics, and chemotherapy drugs.

Things You Can Do To Stop Ringing in Ears

When we say tinnitus cure, it somewhat refers on how to totally stop ringing in ears. Unfortunately, there is none as of yet although you can take comfort in the fact that it does not necessarily mean that you would have to deal and live with the unwanted sound for the rest of your life. Now, how is this possible?

It is possible if you just know the proper steps to take. Be reminded, though, that it is a process and may take some time. There are no short cuts, no magic pills that you just can pop to eliminate the unwanted sound. Thus, patience and determined are required of you. Also, what we are aiming here is to reduce the ringing in yours to ignorable that it will no longer be factor in your life.

First, see your doctor and seek for medical advice. Do not self-medicate as it may only make your tinnitus worse. Tests will be run to determine the root cause of the ringing in your ears. The source of the unwanted sound is generally an underlying medical condition. It is important to have it determined as tinnitus is primarily treated according to its cause.

You would then get that appropriate remedy. As of yet, there are no conventional medications that are specifically prepared to treat tinitus, so you can explore alternative options. Good examples are homeopathic tinnitus remedies, products of alternative medicine specifically prepared to treat the main causes of ear ringing: noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinusitis or allergies, and Meniere's Disease.

As stress tends to worsen the ringing in your ears, making an effort to manage it properly is the next step that you should take. Do find time to relax. You should set aside some time of the day where you just relax and relieve yourself of the day's stress. Healthy relaxation activities include taking a walk, having a nice warm bath, calling a good friend, and curling up with a good book. Counterproductive activities, on the other hand, include smoking, drinking too much, overeating or undereating, and sleeping too much. Treatments like counseling, hypnotherapy, and meditation can also be helpful.

Furthermore, you will not be able to stop ringing in ears if your immune system is in a poor state. Your immune system wards off infections and diseases that may increase the level of the ringing in your ears, so you should make an effort to boost it and keep it in a good state. A healthy lifestyle, in general, is the key to achieving this. And, it especially concerns your diet, exercise habits, and sleeping patterns.

Tinnitus Cure: Is It Achievable?

It is an established fact that there is no tinnitus cure, just like there is none for fever or for an itch. Your doctor may probably have advised you to just learn to deal and live with it. And, getting this kind of response can indeed be frustrating on your part. But you would not want to settle for anything like that, especially if you experience ear ringing day in day out.

It is not all bad news regarding ringing in the ears, though. For someone like you that has been suffering from the unwanted sound, you deserve to know that you do not have to deal and live with ear ringing for the rest of your life. Although you cannot totally eliminate it, you can consider yourself having cured of it because it can be reduced to ignorable to the extent that it will no longer be a factor in your life.

This can be achieved by:

having the root cause of the ringing in your ears determined with a fair degree of certainty

As tinitus is a symptom of an underlying medical condition, its treatment is primarily dependent on what caused it. Thus, for you to have the right treatment, what caused the unwanted sound should be identified. This can be done with the help of certain tests that your physician will run. There are also specialized tests that may have to be used, examples of which include X-rays, audiogram, residual inhibition, and evoked response audiometry.

getting the appropriate homeopathic tinnitus remedy

The homeopathic tinnitus remedies focus on treating the root cause of ringing in the ears, and they are considered natural safe. There is a homeopathic remedy for each of the main causes: noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinusitis or allergies, and Meniere's Disease.

managing stress properly

Efforts should be taken to manage stress as it tends to trigger or increase the level of the unwanted sound. Stress is not entirely bad, but when it accumulates and the body is no longer able to respond positively, then it can have negative effects, just like insomnia and immune system suppression. There are various treatments that help you manage stress, including counseling, hypnotherapy, meditation, and a stress relief formula.

boosting your immune system

If you want to achieve the closest thing to tinnitus cure, you also need to boost your immune system. A weak immune system makes you more exposed to infections and diseases that may trigger or aggravate the ringing in your ears. A proper diet, a regular and proper exercise, and enough sleep at night are the basic things you need to keep your immune system strong. Also, you may find some help from an immune booster formula.

What Are The Different Kinds of Ear Ringing Treatments?

Ear ringing treatments are usually classified as either alternative, natural, or under the realm of conventional medicine. It should be understood, though, that although there are various tinnitus remedies available, their levels of success differ from one sufferer to another. It is because of certain factors, including the root cause of the unwanted sound, a sufferer's ability to manage stress, and the state of his or her immune system.

Antidepressants, anti-anxiety, and anticonvulsants are examples of conventional drugs that are used to control the symptoms of tinnitus. However, they have known side effects such as dizziness, drying of the mouth, and constipation. Furthermore, although they are not necessarily ototoxic drugs, they may trigger or aggravate the level of ear ringing.

Alternative treatments are also being used by ringing in the ears sufferers, especially the conservative ones. Many people use them because they are considered natural and do not have side effects. These include homeopathic tinnitus remedies, herbal preparations, acupressure, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, meditation, reflexology, and relaxation therapy.

Natural remedies, on the other hand, are the practical things that you can do to relieve you of the symptoms of tinnitus. They are usually diet and lifestyle changes, and even though you are using commercially available remedies, they must still be made use of.

Salty foods and caffeinated food and drinks (chocolates, coffee, sodas) should be avoided. Your diet, on the other hand, should be specially rich in zinc, choline, protein, and the vitamins A, B, and E. You should also aim for a diet that is high in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and low in canned, frozen or processed foods. Keeping yourself active also helps. Exercise regularly and properly, whether in the form of doing sports, or as practical as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking your dog.

Exposing your ears to loud noise should be avoided. If going to very noisy places is inevitable, you can protect your ears by wearing earplugs. Furthermore, you can mask the unwanted noise, especially when you are about to sleep through the sounds produced by your air conditioner, stereo, or television set.

It should also be understood that there is no single, standard treatment for tinnitus. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary, a combination of ear ringing treatments. Furthermore, to make finding the right remedies less difficult, the root cause of the ringing in your ears should be determined with a fair degree of certainty, and this can be done with the help of your physician.
